Magpie Opens New Main Store and Celebrates an Anniversary

Two years ago, on a whim, I opened my first Magpie store — a modest 7 prim cart at LVS (you can see photos of that at the end of the post). I primarily did it because I wanted to learn how it was that people sold things in SL — how you made a vendor, how you rented commercial space. I’m a learn-by-doing kind of girl πŸ™‚ . Shortly after that, I picked up a parcel on a terrific sim I had been haunting, Juicy, and opened a main store there. (Again, you can see it in the picture below — you can’t even recognize Juicy, can you?!) Because of time constraints, my business has been on a slow-growth model … but it has pleased me enormously to build it up a little at a time — and I’ve grown, made tremendous friends, and had great fun along the way.

As I begin my official third year in business, I am pleased to share two exciting bits of news! First, I’ve opened my new mainstore on my own mainland parcel — which was a huge and exciting step for me. My dear friends, Ivanova Shostakovich and Peter Stindberg, have built a new store for GREENE concept just down the hill from me … and frankly did all the important work of putting my build together. I owe a debt of gratitude to them both πŸ™‚ The two stores make a lovely little shopping area, so be sure to come over for a visit!

My second piece of news has been a project near and dear to my heart for a long time. Magpie has opened a sister store, CatchPenny, specifically to provide lower cost accessories. Everything in the store is priced at L$20 or lower! I think that accessories can be a really terrific way to personalize your look, or enhance basic clothing … something that may be especially important to new AVs, or AVs on a budget. And actually all of us can appreciate the value of adding some low-cost items to our inventory! It has been a dream of mine to offer good quality, inexpensive items in a retail setting. I have so appreciated many of the other places in SL that are doing similar things, and I’m pleased to contribute my efforts.

  1. Many congrats. Hope you are VERY happy in your new spot! I remember seeing a cart of yours LONG ago in some big medieval maybe (?) sim. I think that was before your jewelry building, in the T shirt times. That was back in the early Iheartsl days. You’ve come a long way — and it has been FUN. That’s the important part. Yeah!
